On the 1st of October I went with the cubs, D/K parents, and committee members to base to do boat-shed maintenance.

Unfortunately, I was asleep for most of the time we were there so I cannot write a full report but I can write what I remember

.

When we arrived at the base we unlocked the new garage door and wheeled the Saldanha dinghy out the boat-shed and closer to the gate. Caleb, Joey and I then proceeded to raise the mast and secure. Joey then rounded up the cubs who where already there to help him launch and rig the boat and Caleb and went to the boat-shed to begin work.

We started by moving the mattresses off the beds and to the other side of the shed. Caleb then started sanding with our electric sander and Chris, an active cub parent, arrived with his sanding machine and joined in.

Once the sanding was done we mixed the varnish with the thinners for the under undercoat, which Caleb and Chris applied while I sanded the oars. We left the bunks dry for a while and after I had applied an undercoat to the oars I went to sleep.

When I woke up we applied the second coat of varnish and from what I have heard Joey and the cubs who went sailing with ended helping a girl guide who had capsized.

All in all the day was productive and the parents who attended got to enjoy the Sea Scout Base and learn more about it. I think that the really got the sailing bug and will definitley be back for more in the future!
